Religion and faith have been a part of humanity for as long as history has been recorded. Many people have the impression that religion is something like an unchanging entity. They believe that God has always existed and will always exist.

Summary Table

God Jesus Christ
A Supreme Being The incarnation of God
Has no beginning and no end Has a beginning and an end
God is different in every religion Jesus Christ is Christianity’s God

However, there are many interpretations of the origins of religion. Some of them believe that religion is man-made and that it is a product of human imagination. Other people believe that God has always existed and He created everything in this universe. These people believe that everything has a creator and this creator is God.

In addition, people from different cultures have different understanding of God. Some believe in the God of the Bible, while others believe in the God of Hinduism. There are also people who believe in the God of Islam, and many others who believe other Supreme Being or Supreme Powers.

One thing that is common among all of them is that they believe in the existence of God. The only difference between these people is their belief on who or what God is. Some believe in Jesus Christ, while others believe in another God. But what is the difference between God and Jesus Christ? Why do people believe in one and not the other?

In this article, we will discuss the difference between God and Jesus Christ. We will try to find out what people mean when they say that God and when they say that Jesus Christ is God. Let’s find out.

Difference Between God and Jesus Christ

Who is God?

The first thing that people think when they hear the word God is an almighty being. A being who is bigger than everything else. A being who has control over everything. The only being who can create everything. He can do anything he wants, whenever he wants it to happen. He can create anything that he wants in this world, without asking for permission from anyone. No one controls him, no one controls his power and no one controls his ability to do whatever he wants in this world without asking for permission from anyone else.

The origin of the word God is from the Greek word “theos” which means “god”. The Bible says that the word God is derived from the Hebrew word “elohim” which means “gods”.

Some believe God is a spirit. He is a being that has a mind, a will and a personality. God can think, he can feel and he can make decisions. Some other people believe that God is no spirit, no living being, no thing. God is God.

But what we can say is that God is what every religion says he is. God is what people believe in. God is what people worship. God is what people pray to. In Islam, God is Allah. In Christianity, God is Yahweh, the creator and sustainer of all things that exist. In Judaism, God is Jehovah. And in Hinduism, God is Brahman.

Who is Jesus Christ?

In Christianity, Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God, and he is in human flesh. This statement is foundational to the Christian faith. Christians are taught that Jesus was God‘s son incarnate, that he lived a sinless life, that he was executed as a criminal, and that he rose from the dead three days later. These are just a few of the basic beliefs held by Christians about Jesus Christ.

Christians are taught that Jesus was God’s son incarnate. That is, Jesus is God’s representative in human flesh. As a result, Christians believe that Jesus has two natures, one divine and one human. However, many Christians also believe that Jesus has one nature, but with two distinct personalities.

Christians are taught that Jesus lived a sinless life. They believe that Jesus, God’s son, in human flesh was born of a virgin, grew up in poverty, healed the sick and raised the dead. The belief that Jesus taught and lived a moral life, often preaching that it is better to give than to receive. His morality was based on the teachings of the Jewish Bible, the Torah.

How are They Related?

There are many verses in the Bible that show that Jesus Christ is God’s son, but there are also many verses that show that Jesus Christ is the incarnation of God. Moreover, God in every religion is one and the same, but in Christianity God is a single being but with three spirits (also referred to as the Trinity, comprised of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). In Islam God is one and only one spirit.

To understand the differences between God and Jesus Christ, we need to look at the similarities between them.

  1. Both of them are the creators of the universe.
  2. They are both absolute beings.
  3. They are both supreme.
  4. They are both perfect beings, not affected by sin and weakness like human beings are.
  5. They are both omniscient and omnipotent.
  6. They are both the only beings that have the right to judge people.
  7. They are both eternal beings, they will never die or become extinct like other living beings.

What are their Differences?

Now, we will discuss the differences between God and Jesus Christ. Here are some of the differences:

  1. The Meaning

The word “God” means a Supreme Being. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who was born on earth as a human being. Jesus Christ is God, but not the Supreme Being.

  1. The Nature

The word “God” means someone who has no beginning and no end. Jesus Christ is God’s son, but he has a beginning and an end (in human form), though he lives forever and has no end.

  1. The Origin

God is different in every person’s mind and in every religion. God is different in Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism. Jesus Christ is the son of God in Christianity. Jesus Christ is human. He lived and died as a human on the earth. As far as the Bible and Christian teaching tell us, God has not lived on the earth as a human.

4. Ascension

Jesus Christ ascended into heaven after he rose from the dead (as described in the Book of Acts in the Bible). Christ went to heaven in human form, though his body was transfigured after he rose. God has always been in heaven.

5. Part of the Trinity, Yet Distinct Personality

Jesus is part of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), but he is one member of the trinity. He is part of the personhood of God, but Jesus is also distinct among the trinity. Jesus is fully divine, even in his human form. Yet, God and Jesus are one, though they are distinct personalities of the Trinity. This is very difficult to understand. How can we humans understand God’s full nature? God is infinite, while we are finite.

6. Name

Jesus Christ is the name of God’s son, yet God also has his own names, including Yahweh (LORD), amongst others.

7. Purpose

Jesus Christ is the Christians’ savior and redeemer—to save humans from their sins. He came to put humans in right relationship with God through his death and resurrection. On the other hand, God is called our Father—he was also called “Father” by Jesus Christ.
