What is AMD?
AMD was founded in 1969 by Jerry Sanders and Robert Noyce. The company’s first product was the 709 microprocessor, which could be found in a system called the Data General Nova. At the time, this was the world’s fastest microprocessor.
In 1975, AMD created a new type of microprocessor known as the 8080 processor. This chip used advanced integrated circuits to enhance processing power. A few years later, AMD created a successor to the 8080 known as the 8086 processor. This chip offered many new features and functions including 32-bit addressing, real-time clock support and dual-port RAM controllers.
What is Intel?
Intel was founded in 1968 by Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce. At the time, Intel was one of the few American companies that had built a successful microprocessor. Intel’s first chip was the 4004 processor, which could be found in the Altair 8800.

A few years later, Intel created a successor to the 8080 known as the 8086 processor. AMD VS Intel
Both AMD and Intel produce processors for computers. AMD is the most well-known company in the processor industry, as it produces chipsets that are used in motherboards and other components. Intel is one of the few companies that makes processors, as it is primarily known for its high-end desktop processors.
Processors produced by AMD are known as Athlon and Phenom processors. These chipsets are commonly used in laptops, while they are not very common in desktops. AMD’s Athlon X2 processors use the same processor cores as their Athlon II counterparts, but they have fewer cores and a lower clock speed.
AMD’s latest desktop chipsets include their Athlon II X4 and Phenom II X4 chipsets. These chipsets have an integrated memory controller and DirectX 11 support, but do not support Hyper-Threading technology.
Their Phenom II X6 chipsets have an integrated memory controller, but do not support Hyper-Threading technology or dual-core processing modes. All of these chips have a dual core CPU configuration with 2MB of L2 cache memory for each core. This amount of cache memory can significantly improve performance.
